After 29 October 1923, as in the whole country, there have been many changes in Antalya. The region which became a sanjak during the Ottoman period became a province with the republic period. The population of the province, which developed in small scale in the period of 1923-50, has started to receive intensive immigration after 1950.
The period between 1950 and 1960 in Antalya; With the start of industrialization, the population growth coming from rural to urban areas is seen, as a result of the desire for better work, better working, resting and sheltering, it is a time period in which the efforts to establish the city that will meet the needs of the people coming to the city. In this period, the social, cultural and physical changes that the migration would create in the city started gradually in the period. This period is important because it is the period when a new settlement formation, which brings differentiation in production, leads to socio-economic and cultural change. Kalekapisi Bazaar was formed between 1960-1965 and between 1965-1970, the commercial functions of Kalekapısı and Belediye office building, which are still in use in the south of the street, have been replaced. In 1970, Vakıf İşhanı was built. As a city with a high potential of natural and cultural resources, Antalya's priority in planning and investment has increased with the determination of priority areas in tourism in 1969. 1960-70 period is a process in which Antalya is caught unprepared for the rapid population growth and social, cultural and spatial changes arising from urbanization.
Starting from 1974, the announcement of the tourism area and the infrastructure works of the southern part of Antalya, completion of the construction of the port, increasing the airport capacity, implementation of the old port and Kaleiçi project, the construction of the Fethiye-KaÅŸ route, a very important touristic center function of Antalya throughout the country As a result of the burden of the city from the 1970s until the end of the 1990s has been structured irregularly. Antalya won the metropolitan title with the decree no. 504 of September 2, 1993. With the law no. 5216 enacted in 2004, the borders of the metropolitan municipality were extended to the borders of the governor's office and the radius of the apartment was 30 kilometers.
