Bodrum is one of the 13 districts of Muğla. Nowadays, the city is known to be an important tourism center and Bodrum has some special features. Bodrum in Turkey is not only a district known in the world in terms of tourism. In terms of population, it passed the hinge of Menteşe and Fethiye and became the largest county in terms of population. It was read as 'Halicarnas' in Turkish. The city, called the Castle of St. Peter, was named 'Petrium' by the city, dedicated to St. Peter. This name has been said in time as 'petrum' and then as 'potrum' and finally 'Bodrum'.
Mausoleum, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, was built in the city of Halicarnassus. Due to earthquakes and invasions, the marble stones of the mausoleum which were destroyed by time were used in the construction of Bodrum Castle. The castle was built by the Christian Knights in the 15th century. Construction was completed in a period of 100 years. The Pope has handed out papers to those who work in the construction of the castle to finish the castle. The city of Bodrum is the last captured Christian land on Anatolian soil. City II.
